Social Compliance
Last updated: 19 April 2026
The products you buy from us are made by real people in real factories. We hold ourselves and our vendors accountable for how those people are treated.
Our commitment
Gifts Gulf will not knowingly buy from or resell products made with forced labour, child labour, or under conditions that violate local employment law or internationally recognised standards for decent work (ILO conventions on minimum wage, working hours, freedom of association, and occupational safety).
Audits we rely on
Every factory in our supplier network carries one of the following valid, current audits:
- BSCI (amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative) β covers wages, working hours, safety, discrimination, and environmental practices.
- SMETA 4-pillar (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) β a deeper audit covering labour standards, health & safety, environment, and business ethics.
- SA8000 β for factories making apparel & textiles in India and Bangladesh.
- WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) β for apparel, footwear, and sewn products.
Audits must be less than 24 months old and a "green" (pass) or "yellow" (minor findings with remediation plan) grade. Red-rated suppliers are suspended until remediation is verified.
What we verify directly
Audit reports are a starting point β we also do unannounced site visits for factories producing more than $50,000/year of our orders. Our sourcing team checks:
- Employment contracts on file for each worker
- Wages paid at or above the statutory minimum for the region, paid on time
- Working hours logs β maximum 48 regular + 12 overtime hours/week except by free consent
- No presence of workers under 15 (or under 14 in ILO-exempt countries)
- Functional health & safety equipment, fire exits, first-aid, and drinking water
- Functioning worker grievance channels, including independent hotlines where required
Zero-tolerance findings
We immediately terminate sourcing from any supplier where we find:
- Child labour (under the country's legal minimum)
- Any form of forced, bonded, or prison labour
- Physical abuse or corporal punishment
- Discrimination based on gender, religion, caste, or political affiliation
- Blocked fire exits, confiscated worker passports, or retention of wages
We report such findings to the relevant authorities and to Sedex / amfori so other buyers can protect themselves.
Supply-chain transparency
On request, for any order above 500 units, we disclose:
- The name and city of the source factory
- The factory's audit certificate and date
- Our history with that factory (orders placed, issues encountered, remediation taken)
For buyers with published ESG policies (government, corporates with SEDEX membership), we include this disclosure by default at no additional cost.
Code of conduct
Every supplier signs our Supplier Code of Conduct before their first purchase order. The code covers labour rights, occupational health & safety, environmental management, anti-corruption, and subcontracting disclosure. A full copy is available on request.
Reporting concerns
If you're a worker, a buyer, or any third party who believes a factory in our network has violated labour law or our Code of Conduct, please contact us in confidence:
Email: ethics@giftsgulf.com
We treat all reports confidentially. Retaliation against whistleblowers β whether by us or by our suppliers β is grounds for immediate termination.
