Dye sublimation uses heat to turn solid dye into gas, which bonds into the surface of polyester fabric or a specially coated item. Because the dye becomes part of the material, there is no ink layer to feel, crack or peel.

How sublimation works, step by step

Artwork layout
Artwork is laid out to the exact cut pattern so the design lines up across seams.

Transfer print
The design is printed in reverse onto transfer paper with sublimation inks.

Heat press
Heat and pressure turn the dye to gas, bonding it into the fibres or coating.

Cut and sew
For apparel, printed panels are cut and sewn after printing, giving true edge-to-edge coverage.
Dye Sublimation: common questions
Why does sublimation only work on polyester?
The dye bonds to polymer, not to natural fibres. On 100% cotton the colour washes straight out. For cotton garments, screen printing or DTF transfer is the correct method — we will say so rather than sell you a print that fails on first wash.
Can you print all-over designs on sportswear?
Yes. Panels are printed before the garment is sewn, so the design runs edge to edge with no blank border and no seam break — which is exactly what cut-and-sew sublimation is for, and what a heat-pressed transfer cannot do.
Does sublimation fade in Gulf sun?
Sublimated dye is bonded into the fibre and holds colour far better than a surface print, but no dye is immune to prolonged direct UV. For outdoor signage and permanently sun-exposed items, ask us about UV-stable substrates instead.
