Qatar National Sport Day 2027: Date, Facts and How Companies Take Part

National Sport Day is a Qatari public holiday dedicated to sport and healthy living. It was created by Emiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, which set the second Tuesday of February as the date, and the first edition was held in February 2012.

The decision asks ministries, government bodies and other organisations, including private companies, to organise sports activities for their employees on the day. That is what makes it different from most public holidays: it is a day off work that is meant to be spent being active, often with colleagues.

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, so Sport Day falls on about the second day of the month. The National Sport Day Committee announced the 2027 theme "Ramadan is an opportunity" and split the programme around the fast: lighter activities such as walking, jogging and cycling from 3 to 5 pm before iftar, and more demanding sports such as football, volleyball and swimming from 9 to 11.30 pm after taraweeh.

Event locations are due to be published at the end of January 2027. If your company runs its own event, plan the timing the same way, and avoid food or drink handouts during fasting hours.

Most companies run a short programme for staff: a walk or fun run, a football or padel tournament, team challenges, or a family activity. Larger organisations join public events as a team.

A matching kit makes the day feel organised and photographs well: a T-shirt or polo with the company logo, a cap, a water bottle and a drawstring bag. Tournaments and challenges end with trophies and medals.

For delivery in Qatar before 9 February 2027, approve artwork by 14 January for embroidered and screen-printed kits, by 21 January for engraved bottles and trophies, and by 28 January for DTF-printed T-shirts and bags. Boxed staff kits need approval by 7 January.
