1. Decide who the award is actually for
Staff long-service and department awards, client and partner recognition, event and sponsor trophies, and academic/graduation awards all use the same production process but need different framing — a client-facing award usually carries the recipient's company or agency branding alongside yours, while a staff award is internal-only. Tell us which category it is so we quote the right finish and wording layout.
2. Choose the material and finish
Crystal, acrylic and metal (brass or aluminium-finish) are the three most common bases. Crystal and acrylic take laser engraving cleanly and read as premium for client-facing or senior-level awards; metal plaques suit mounted or wall-display recognition. Wood is available for a warmer, less corporate finish — common for education-sector awards.
3. Confirm whether names vary per piece
This is the detail that most affects turnaround: a batch where every trophy carries a different individual's name and date (a typical annual service-awards run) needs a name list, not just one approved design. Send the list as a simple spreadsheet — name, title, date — and we engrave each piece individually within the same production run, at no per-name surcharge.
4. Set your quantity and lead time against your ceremony date
Minimum order is low — from 25 pieces — since laser engraving carries no per-colour setup cost the way screen printing does. Standard turnaround is 5-10 working days from artwork/name-list approval; if the ceremony date is fixed (an annual awards night, a graduation, a conference closing session), tell us that date at enquiry and we will confirm plainly whether it is achievable rather than you discovering a shortfall the week before.
5. Approve a single sample proof before the full name-list run
For any batch of personalised awards, we produce one sample piece with your chosen name/date format for sign-off before running the full list. This catches font-size, placement or wording issues on one piece instead of the whole batch — worth the extra day it adds, especially on a fixed ceremony date.
