Buying Corporate Gifts in Qatar: Customs Duty, No VAT and QAR Invoices
Buying corporate gifts for a Qatar team or client list is simpler on paper than in the UAE, because Qatar has not introduced VAT. The cost that catches buyers out is customs: most promotional products are made outside Qatar, and imported goods generally carry a 5% duty under the GCC common external tariff. This guide covers what that means for your quote, what your invoice should look like, and how to plan the calendar so branded gifts clear in time for Qatar National Day, Ramadan or an exhibition at DECC or QNCC.
Is There VAT on Corporate Gifts in Qatar?
No. As of late 2026 Qatar has not implemented VAT or a general sales tax, so a Qatar invoice for corporate gifts should not carry a VAT line. Qatar has signed the GCC VAT framework and has been preparing e-invoicing legislation, but no start date for VAT has been announced. If your supplier is UAE-based, ask for a separate Qatar invoice in QAR rather than a UAE invoice with 5% UAE VAT on it.
Customs Duty: The 5% That Belongs in Your Budget
Qatar applies the GCC common external tariff, under which most imported goods carry a 5% customs duty on their customs value. Pens, bags, drinkware, apparel and tech accessories made in Asia or Europe fall into this general rate. Goods produced inside the GCC with valid certificates of origin can move within the customs union without that duty, which is one reason regional production matters for large orders.
In practice you have two ways to handle it. Either the supplier imports, clears and delivers to your door with duty included in a landed price, or you import in your own name and pay duty at clearance. For most corporate buyers the first is easier, because a single delivered price per piece is what procurement can approve.
- Ask every supplier whether the price is delivered duty paid (DDP) to your Doha address.
- Compare quotes on the delivered price, not the ex-works price.
- For orders shipped from the UAE, allow time for the Abu Samra land border or air freight clearance.
What a Qatar Invoice for Corporate Gifts Should Show
Without VAT, a Qatar commercial invoice is straightforward: supplier and buyer details, your Commercial Registration (CR) number if your finance team requires it, a clear description of each item and branding, quantities, unit prices in QAR and the total. Large companies and government buyers often also ask for the supplier's CR, a delivery note signed on receipt and, for semi-government entities, a purchase order number on every page.
Corporate Tax and Who Pays It
Qatar's corporate income tax is 10%, but it applies mainly to the foreign-owned share of company profits; companies wholly owned by Qatari nationals are generally exempt. That affects your supplier's pricing far more than your gift budget. For the buyer, branded merchandise is normally treated as a marketing or staff welfare expense, and your auditor will want the invoice and delivery note on file.
Lead Times That Work in Doha
For branded orders, plan on 7 to 14 working days of production after artwork approval, plus delivery. Imported stock adds shipping and clearance time on top. Work back from your hand-out date and leave a buffer before Qatar National Day on 18 December and before Ramadan, which is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, because courier and clearance capacity tightens for everyone in those weeks.

Should a UAE supplier charge me UAE VAT for a Qatar order?
