How to Plan Branded Merchandise for a Product Launch or Corporate Event

Generic branded merchandise says "here's our logo." Launch-event merchandise has one job beyond that: reinforcing what's actually being announced, for the specific audience in the room that day. That's a narrower brief than a general promo giveaway, and it changes what's worth ordering.

Tie the item to the announcement, not just the brand

If you're launching a product, the strongest merchandise choices are either a physical tie-in to the product itself (a miniature or representative item, packaging that echoes the launch visual) or something the attendee will use again specifically around the memory of that launch β€” a dated commemorative item works better here than a generic branded pen, because the date and occasion are doing the work a logo alone can't.

Segment the guest list before you order

Press and VIP attendees, partners, and general guests usually warrant different gift tiers β€” treating everyone identically either overspends on the general list or underdelivers for press and VIPs. Order press/VIP gifts as a separate, smaller, higher-quality line item rather than trying to make one item work for the whole room.

On-the-day logistics

Decide the handout mechanism before the event, not during it: a gift table at the exit reads very differently from individually placed gifts at each seat, and the second option needs the item count finalised well ahead of the RSVP deadline, with a reasonable buffer for walk-ins.

For venue branding alongside the merchandise β€” step-and-repeat backdrops, entrance signage, stage branding β€” coordinate the print order with the merchandise order so both land with the same lead time; large-format print production and branded merchandise production don't always share the same turnaround.
